PUBLICATION RULES

La Revista de la Sociedad Geológica de España es una publicación semestral de acceso abierto de la Sociedad Geológica de España que da cabida a trabajos de investigación científica, en español o en inglés, en relación con cualquier área de las Ciencias de la Tierra. Los trabajos de geología de la Península Ibérica y áreas próximas son particularmente bienvenidos. Los trabajos relacionados con la Historia de la Geología, el Patrimonio Geológico, y temáticas similares, serán incluidos en la sección “Miscelánea” de la revista. Los trabajos deberán ser originales, es decir, no publicados (o no aceptados) en otra revista, sea íntegramente o por partes y/o en otro idioma. Todos los artículos serán revisados, al menos, por dos especialistas y por miembros del Comité Editorial.

The Journal of the Geological Society of Spain is an open access biannual publication of the Geological Society of Spain. This journal publishes original research contributions in Spanish or English that cover all Earth Science topics, in particular those concerning the Iberian Peninsula and surrounding areas. Papers related to the History of Geology, Geological Heritage, and similar topics, will be included in the “Miscellaneous” section of the journal. The submitted manuscripts must be original research papers that have not been published (or not acepted) totally or partially elsewhere, in any language. All the papers will be reviewed by a minimum of two referees and by the Editorial Board.


	PREPARACIÓN DEL MANUSCRITO	MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

Organización del texto. El texto se elaborará siguiendo la Plantilla RSGE (formato DOC), disponible aquí. El texto seguirá este orden:

1) Título en español e inglés.

2) Nombre y apellido/s del/los autor/es.

3) Dirección postal y electrónica completa del/los autor/es.

4) Resumen en español e inglés, de 200 palabras para el idioma del manuscrito, de 400 en el segundo idioma.

5) Palabras clave (3 a 5, en español y en inglés).

6) Título corto para el encabezamiento, en el idioma del manuscrito.

7) Texto principal. Los encabezamientos del texto principal se ordenarán jerárquicamente en tres tipos, sin numeración alguna: Apartado, Subapartado de primer orden y Subapartado de segundo orden, con punto y seguido el texto. En el texto, se incluirán sólo citas de trabajos publicados o en prensa, con el apellido de autor/es y año de publicación y en orden cronológico (ej., Pérez, 2004; Mateos y Jiménez, 2007; Teixell et al., 2007). Las figuras y tablas se indicarán de forma correlativa (ej., Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Figs. 3-5, Tabla 1, Tabla 2…etc.).

8) Agradecimientos y financiación. Se citarán los agradecimientos personales y a los revisores identificados o anónimos. Además, es necesario indicar las fuentes de financiación del estudio.

9) Contribución de autores. Para artículos con varios autores se especificará, en un párrafo corto, la contribución individual de cada uno.

10) Referencias. Deberán ir ordenadas alfabéticamente por el nombre de autor/es y cronológicamente en el caso de mismo/s autor/es, de acuerdo con los ejemplos indicados abajo.

11) Pies de figuras y tablas.

Text organization. The text is to be formatted using the RSGE Template (DOC format), which is available here. It should be organized as follow:

1) Title (in English and Spanish)..

2) Name and surnames of author/s.

3) Full postal and electronic addresses of author/s.

4) Abstract in Spanish and English, not exceeding 200 words in the language of the main text, and no more than 400 words in the second language.

5) Keywords (3 to 5, in Spanish and English).

6) Short title to use as header, in the language of the main text.

7) Main text. Headings should be hierarchically sorted into three types without any numbering: Section, First-order subsection and Second-order subsection, with dot and followed by the text. In the main text, cite only published or in press publications. Any cited publications should be referred to the author’s surname/s and year of publication, arranged chronologically (e.g., Pérez, 2004; Mateos and Jiménez, 2007; Teixell et al., 2007). The figures and tables must be sequential (e.g., Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig 3-5, Table 1, Table 2…etc.).

8) Acknowledgements and funding. To cite personal acknowledgements and those to the identified or anonymous reviewers. In addition, it is necessary to indicate the funding sources of the study.

9) Author contributions. For articles with several authors, a short paragraph specifying their individual contributions must be provided.

10) References. The list of references should be arranged alphabetically by authors' surnames, and chronologically per author/s, as in the examples below.

11) Figure and table captions.

Figuras y tablas. Para el diseño de tablas y figuras (incluyendo dibujos y fotografías) se tendrá en cuenta el tamaño de caja de la revista (248 x 170 mm). Las figuras y tablas pueden ocupar la anchura de una columna (82 mm) o de una página (170 mm). El tamaño de letra deberá ser como mínimo de 7 ptos. y la anchura de línea oscilará entre 0,3 y 1,5 ptos. Las tablas irán en formato DOC. Las partes de una figura se denotarán con letras mayúsculas (A, B, C, etc.). Los dibujos deben tener una buena calidad en cuanto a tramas, tonos de grises y leyendas. Las fotografías deben ser claramente visibles, tener contraste suficiente, y acabado brillante, y contener escalas u objetos que sirvan de referencia.

Figures and tables. The page size of the journal, 248 x 170 mm, should be considered when preparing figures (both drawings and photographs) and tables. The figures and tables can occupy either one column (82 mm width) or the whole width of the page (170 mm width). Lettering should be a minimum of 7 pt. Line widths should range from 0.3 to 1.5 pt. Tables shall be in DOC format. Figure parts should be denoted by uppercase letters (A, B, C, etc.). Line drawings must be of good quality in terms of patterns, grey tones and legends. Photographs should be clear, have good contrast and a glossy aspect, and employ some indication of scale.

Extensión del manuscrito. Como norma general, la extensión del manuscrito, incluyendo texto y espacio equivalente de figuras y tablas, no podrá exceder 20 páginas impresas. Una página de la Plantilla RSGE (en fuente Times New Roman 10, a espacio simple) equivale a unas 1000 palabras aproximadamente.

Manuscript length. As a general rule, manuscripts must not exceed 20 printed pages, including text and the equivalent space for figures and tables. One single-spaced RSGE Template page, written with font Times New Roman 10, contains approximately 1000 words.

ENVÍO Y REVISIÓN DEL MANUSCRITO

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION AND REVISION

El manuscrito será enviado electrónicamente a la Editora Principal (Nieves López González) a través de la plataforma de Envío de Artículos en 2 documentos: 1) el texto en formato DOC (i.e., Plantilla RSGE) y 2) las figuras y tablas en un documento PDF y numeradas correlativamente. A la hora de preparar estos documentos, hay que tener en cuenta que la plataforma tiene una capacidad máxima de envío de 9 Mb. E/los autor/es deberá/n proporcionar el nombre, institución y correo electrónico de 5 posibles revisores (ver Plantilla RSGE). Existe la posibilidad de vetar revisores, siempre que esté debidamente justificado.

La Editora Principal valorará la adecuación del manuscrito a las normas de publicación. Si el trabajo se ajusta a las normas, este será enviado para su revisión a 2 revisores y, en caso de discrepancia entre ellos, se remitirá a un tercer revisor. Teniendo en cuenta la opinión de los revisores, la Editora Principal decidirá si el trabajo se acepta como está, con modificaciones menores, con modificaciones mayores, o es rechazado. En caso de que sea aceptado con modificaciones, el manuscrito inicial será corregido por el/los autor/es, siguiendo las observaciones de los revisores. La nueva versión del documento será enviada a la Editora Principal, quien valorará la necesidad de una segunda revisión o, en su caso, lo aceptará definitivamente.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through paper submission to the Editor-in-chief (Nieves López González) in 2 separated files: 1) the text document (i.e., RSGE Template); and 2) the figures and tables in a PDF document and numbered sequentially. The maximum fill size of these two documents should be 9 Mb. The author/s should provide the names, addresses and e-mails of 5 suggested reviewers (see RSGE Template). When justified, opposed reviewers can be named.

The Editor-in-chief evaluates the manuscript to ensure that it follows the requirements of the journal. If the manuscript receives a positive evaluation, it will be sent for review to 2 referees. Given conflicting reviews, the Editor-in-chief may send the manuscript to a third referee. Once revised, the Editor-in-chief will decide if the manuscript can be accepted as is, with minor revisions, with major revisions, or rejected. If minor or major revisions are required, the author/s will be asked to modify the original manuscript following the reviewers´ suggestions. The new version of the manuscript will be sent to the Editor-in-chief, who will assess whether there is a need for additional revisions or if the manuscript is acceptable for publication.

Una vez aceptado el manuscrito se enviará por correo electrónico a la Editora Principal (nieves.lopez@ieo.es), la versión final de las tablas (en formato DOC) y de las figuras (en formato JPG, TIFF o EPS), en archivos individuales. Si se usa el formato TIFF y la figura sólo contiene dibujos de líneas, la resolución deberá ser de 600 ppp. Si la figura tiene trama de grises o es en color, la resolución deberá ser de 300 ppp.

El/los autor/es recibirá/n: 1) las pruebas de imprenta para la corrección de erratas, sin que se acepten modificaciones del texto original; y 2) el documento de Transferencia del Copyright a la Sociedad Geológica de España.

Once the manuscript is accepted, the author/s will send by email to the Editor-in-chief (nieves.lopez@ieo.es), the final version of the tables and figures in separated files. Tables must be in DOC format and figure files must be provided as JPG, TIFF or EPS files. For TIFF format figures containing only lines drawings, a resolution of 600 dpi is required. For greyscale or colour figures, a resolution of 300 dpi is sufficient.

Author/s will receive: 1) the print proofs, to be checked for typesetting/editing; and 2) the Copyright Transfer to the Geological Society of Spain.
